We knew at this point that we were taking on crew in the form of a little baby. The V-BIRTH in most boats is a so over done in my mind. In fact the pull man berth with a head forward is by far my favorite layout. We didn't have that option, but we could reconfigure the for peak with some skills from a great carpentry guy. My vision was to have an upper bunk on the port side and a lower bunk on the starboard. This would allow more storage in the area under the upper bunk. This also allows for more that one person to have their own bed. My Dad was the perfect person to engineer this major project and he was very gracious to accept the task.
This was completely a family affair. Grandma sponsored us for a new mattress for the lower bunk. Aunt Carol sewed up a mattress cover. With all of these nice gifts our daughter Dawn now has a very comfy bed to sleep in.

Now wiring has been an ongoing thing with this boat. I don't know how many hundreds of feet of wire we have replaced here. I can say that there are no old wires left in the boat except for in the masts. Again, back to the engine room we installed a new breaker panel that would control all of the needs for the boat. Then is was on to a zone type of working. I started in the for peak then the main salon lastly the aft stateroom. It was and still is painful as we continue to buy fictures. We got a new fridge and freezer as well as all new A/C wiring and GFIC outlets.

Our next biggest project was to address the leaking around the hull to deck joint. We stripped off the old wood cap rail and separated the hull to deck joint. Removing all of the old butyl sealant was not so bad but with over 80 feet is was time consuming. After all the butyl was removed I resealed the joint with 3m 5200 and blind screwed the deck together. Next for an added layer we used 3 inch fiberglass tape over the joint before dry fitting an aluminum toe rail. Once dry fitting was done we bedded down the toe rail with 3M 4200 fast cure UV and through bolting every four inches. It was a four day proccess and again thanks Dad.

Dawn has already joined us in this boat life, but she was still sleeping with us in our bed. Soon she would be moving on to her own bed in the for peak and that would require some more refitting. So we bought a pair of stainless steel opening port lights and trimmed the side of the hull from the deck to the beds with insulation and Formica. These ports are from New Found Metals and are really solid in construction. With spring hinges to hold the lenses up and tinted safety glass for fun and safety.
